      Repair not replacement

Suitable scratched and damaged flat glass can often be restored in situ without removing the pane.

      Suitability comes first

Glass type, coatings, damage depth, edge position and access are checked before repair is confirmed.

      A clear assessment

Send photographs and basic measurements and we will explain what result you can reasonably expect.

      Specialist glass repair explained

Understand what can be repaired and what affects the result.

Glass polishing removes the damaged surface through controlled sanding and progressively finer polishing stages. The questions below explain which surfaces are suitable, how repairs are assessed and what happens during the work.
      Common questions

      Glass repair questions, answered clearly.

Open each question to learn about repair suitability, likely results, risks, surfaces and requesting a quote.
Can scratched glass be repaired instead of replaced?

Yes. Suitable scratched flat glass can often be repaired in situ through controlled sanding and polishing.

Repair is normally quicker, less disruptive and can cost considerably less than removing and replacing the pane. Photographs help us assess the glass and damage before work is booked.

On suitable glass, a correctly completed repair should restore clarity without leaving an obvious repaired patch.

The final result depends on the depth and position of the damage, the glass type and whether the surface has a coating or film. We explain any limitations before work begins.

Breakage during professional glass polishing is rare, but it cannot be ruled out completely. Hidden edge damage, incorrect fitting or packing, internal spacer-bar position and faults within the glass can increase the risk, particularly close to an edge.

We assess the glass and explain relevant risks before starting the repair.

Many types of flat glass can be repaired, including toughened, laminated and standard float glass.

Textured surfaces, applied films and some coated glass may not be suitable because polishing can alter or remove the surface treatment. We check suitability before confirming the work.

We work on windows, doors, glass tables, mirrors, shower screens, balustrades, skylights, fish tanks, shopfronts and other flat glass surfaces.

If your item is not listed, send us a photograph and a short description so we can assess it.

Many deep scratches, acid-etched marks and areas of weld or grinder spatter can be repaired. Deeper or more extensive damage normally requires additional stages and takes longer to remove.

Suitability depends on the glass, the depth and density of the damage, its distance from the edge and safe access to the surface.

Often, yes. Mineral deposits may sit on the surface or may have etched into it. Cleaning can remove surface contamination, while etched damage may require professional glass polishing.

Clear photographs help us judge the likely treatment.

Scratches on the front glass surface of a suitable mirror can often be polished. Damage to the reflective backing, chips through the silvering or some coated mirror surfaces cannot be corrected by polishing the front surface.

Body-tinted glass can often be repaired because its colour runs through the glass. Applied tinting films and some surface coatings require separate assessment because polishing may remove or alter them.

The process removes a controlled amount of damaged surface before polishing the area back to clarity. A professional assessment considers damage depth, glass thickness, edge distance and the intended use of the pane.

We do not proceed where the glass or damage is unsuitable for a safe repair.

Repair keeps an otherwise usable pane in service and avoids unnecessary glass replacement. This reduces material use, transport, packaging and waste while also limiting disruption at the property or site.

Send clear photographs, approximate dimensions, the number of affected panes, whether the damage is inside or outside, the property location and any access restrictions.

Please also mention any known films or coatings. We will ask for anything else needed to prepare an accurate quote.

Really pleased with the job Matt did to get my loft window and balustrade glass as good as new. He explained the process and potential outcomes clearly. Arrived promptly and cleaned up afterward. Fitted in an extra small repair with no fuss. Would be happy to recommend and a lot cheaper and less hassle than replacing the glass. I also learned how to clean windows properly! Worth the money.

We have a 'Calligaris' glass topped dining table which over the years has suffered a number of small scratches in one corner. These were hidden by table mats and serviettes until we called in ClearAll Glass Repairs Ltd. After the polishing I can no longer identify where they were! We highly recommend ClearAll Glass Repairs Ltd. We found the technician very professional, courteous and Friendly.
