A large scratch-graffiti tag removed without replacing the shopfront pane

The damaged surface was progressively refined and polished until the carved tag and all repair marks disappeared.

The problem

A deep graffiti tag stretched across much of the shopfront window.

The challenge

The wide damaged area needed to be blended evenly without creating distortion in the large pane.

The result

The tag was removed, clarity restored and the original shopfront glass retained.

The repair brief

A deeply scratched graffiti tag across a prominent shopfront window.

The carved tag covered a large, highly visible area of the shopfront. Controlled glass polishing allowed us to remove the damaged surface and blend the repair over a sufficiently broad area to preserve clarity.

Remove the carved graffiti below its deepest point.

The graffiti tag was cut away with the coarsest suitable abrasive. The working area was enlarged evenly around the damage to keep the large pane flat.

Refine the first cut with a finer abrasive.

A finer cutting disc removed the previous abrasive pattern. The complete repair zone was worked consistently rather than following individual letters.

Continue refining the full repair area.

A still finer abrasive reduced the Stage 2 marks and blended the broad repair area while maintaining the optical quality of the shopfront.

Prepare the glass for final polishing.

The finest sanding stage replaced the remaining cutting pattern with a surface fine enough to polish.

Polish the shopfront glass back to clarity.

A specialist polishing pad and compound restored transparency and shine, removing the final haze left by sanding.

Inspect the finished pane from inside and outside.

The pane was cleaned and checked from several viewing angles. The carved tag and all traces of the repair process were gone.

The scratch-graffiti tag was removed and the shopfront glass restored.

The original pane returned to a clear, graffiti-free condition without the cost, waste and disruption of replacement.
