Scratched Glass Table Top See Our 6 Step Restoration

Here we remove multiple scratches from a tinted glass table top

We were contacted by a company who were unhappy with the appearance of one of their scratched glass tables in their reception area

Years of use had left the table covered in glass scratches, made worse not only by the fact the glass had a black backing but also had a well lit ceiling above

*As this is a scratched glass table, which is a horizontal surface rather than a vertical surface like a window or door, care must be taken to protect the surrounding surfaces from being sprayed with glass polish during the final stage of polishing

One thing to also note is as this scratched glass table has a metal frame around the edge we will not be able to polish right to the edge as we would usually

Stage 1. Remove scratches from glass

Due to how badly the scratched glass table is damaged we start with our roughest grit cutting disc to remove the glass on and around the scratches, growing these areas as we cut until they join and become one area

We now cut the scratched glass table growing the area evenly so as not to distort the glass during the glass polishing process until all visible traces of the glass scratches are removed

The main focus of this stage is keeping the glass flat whilst repairing the scratched glass table

Once we are happy with our area we move on the the next stage

Stage 2. Remove all traces of previous glass polishing process

We now cut the glass again but this time with a finer grit cutting disc (which in this case is our usual stage 1 cutting disc)

By now the glass scratches should be gone so the main focus of this stage is working the area evenly as one to guarantee the full removal of the previous stage whilst still keeping the glass flat so as not to distort it during the glass polishing process

When we have gone over our area 2-3 times, not forgetting to slightly increase its size, we check that all traces of the previous glass polishing stage and all glass scratches are removed

Once we are happy with our area we move on to the next stage

Stage 3. Remove all traces of previous glass polishing process

We once again cut the glass but this time with an even finer grit cutting disc

As with the previous stage the glass scratches should be gone so the main focus of this stage is working the area evenly as one to guarantee the full removal of the previous stage whilst still keeping the glass flat so as not to distort it during the glass polishing process

When we have gone over our area 2-3 times, not forgetting to slightly increase its size, we check that all traces of the previous glass polishing stage and all glass scratches are removed

Once we are happy with our area we move on to the next stage

Stage 4. Remove all traces of previous glass polishing process

We now cut the glass again with an even finer grit cutting disc

The main focus of this stage is again working the area evenly as one to guarantee the full removal of the previous stage whilst still keeping the glass flat so as not to distort it during the glass polishing process

When we have gone over our area 2-3 times, not forgetting to slightly increase its size, we check that all traces of the previous glass polishing stage and all glass scratches are removed

Stage 5. Remove all traces of previous glass polishing process

We now cut the glass again with an even finer grit cutting disc (our usual stage 4 cutting disc)

Once we are happy with our area we move on to the final stage, polishing

Stage 6. Polish the glass to restore clarity

We have now cut the glass to a point where it is fine enough to be polished

We now use a polishing pad and glass polish to remove the previous glass polishing stage and bring the glass back to its original clarity

When we have gone over our area 2-3 times we check that all traces of the previous stage of glass polishing and all glass scratches are removed

The job has now been completed

All glass scratches have been fully removed and all traces of the glass polishing process are gone

The once scratched glass table top is now back to its original scratch free condition and clarity, all in a matter of hours and at a fraction of the cost of replacement
